Writer's Block: Where Names Come From

Is there a story behind your real name or avatar? How did you end up being called that?

View 500 Answers

Wow. That question takes me back...

I guess it came first from an old, old RP character of mine. When I was around... twelve, was it? Yes, that's when I started Neopets, and "RPing". In quotes, because it was... uh. xD Not pretty when I first started. My first real RP character was Silver, a Zafara on Neopets. I really enjoyed playing her with my old friends, those are some of the best memories I have, really - she was tough, confident, powerful, everything I didn't feel like I was in real life. I was a sad, scared kid back then, and I needed someone to lean on, even if that someone was a made-up creature in my head who probably displayed all the horrible signs of Mary-Sue-ism!

So yeah, I guess I wanted to be like her - and took the name accordingly. I haven't thought about that in years, honestly - I've moved on in a hell of a lot of ways... but kept the name. I guess it's always been a little source of strength, and good memories.

Also I just really, really like the color/element/word silver and have a thing for putting in "y"s for othyr vowyls. I dunno why.

Heh. Nostalgia blast.

Writer's Block: Comedians as Journalists

Distrust of the media has grown to the point where many people only trust the news if it comes from a comedian. Who do you trust more: Stephen Colbert or Jon Stewart?

View 500 Answers

Jon Stewart simply doesn't make me laugh anymore. ;_; I don't even know why, really - I feel sort of bad for him. He's obviously trying, but... sigh. The spark is gone, love... I suppose I TRUST him more, as he simply gives the news as it is and comments on it, whereas Mr. Colbert spins it in his exaggeratedly right-wing persona. Which is hilarious - but comes with the very disturbing fact that PEOPLE THINK HE'S SERIOUS. :| And I'M serious there - my mother at one point said "ew, how can you watch that show? He's so conservative!" Uh... no. Satire.

So yes. Jon = more reliable, seemingly, but no funnies.

However. Stephen Colbert? Yes. <3 A thousand times yes. I do heart him greatly.
Not least because... well, any Dethfan should recognize a certain resemblance. >D

Writer's Block: Transportation

In the past they promised us jetpacks for the future. We’re still waiting. What is your ideal mode of transportation? Has it been invented yet?

View 500 Answers

I believe the time is more than nigh for us to invent transporters, a la Star Trek.
Not The Original Series - the shimmering glitteryness of sequins in an aquarium would make my face look even more ghostly-pallid than it usually does.
I'm thinking the DS9 Cardassian transporters, (or was it Romulan?) with the golden-ish crescent-looking business that somehow looked vaguely steampunk, that stuff kicked ass... aaaand nobody will likely know what the hell I'm babbling about.

We need to invent those. And holo-decks/suites. HELL YES.
And replicators. Having anything in the world at the push of a button? HELL YES ONCE MORE.

And Dabo wheels. It looks fun. I'd blow all my money in like two seconds probably, but it still looks fun.

As for other ideal modes of transportation? In real life, the train.
In my fantasy life, THE SPACE HELICOPTER. >D Brutal.

Drag? That's brutal...

For a long time I've been following the progress of Fable 2, sequel to one of my favorite videogames and one I've been eagerly awaiting. Unbeknownst to me, they've got new screenshots and whatnot... including THIS little beauty:

http://www.lionhead.com/fable2/popup.html?screenshots/Hello_800.jpg

For some reason the insert-image isn't working, but the link should.

Yes. Yes, Dethfans. It appears to be Murderface in pink pirate-lass/barmaid drag.
That's... that's really something. xD

In any case, I REALLY cannot wait for Fable 2... even if it's for a game system I do not have, and am not likely to get any time soon due to the fact that I AM NOT MADE OF THE MONIES, DAMMIT. D< Hopefully it'll come out for PC like Fable: The Lost Chapters... meh.

And new Metalocalypse. Seriously, doods, I'm startin' to develop some kinda twitch...

There shouldn't BE a closet to come out of.

Stolen from DeviantART journal, felt like sharing it with another small universe. Right. Sorry, but I've really got to step up on the soap-box for a little bit here and rant for just a few irritated minutes.
And then, the Sylver ranted for Several Paragraphs... and found it to be Good. )

(Also: SATAN, THY NAME IS WINDOWS VISTA. Boy, I really hates you.)

Questions:
1) What do you think of all this?
2) What was your coming-out experience like, if you had one?
3) The obligatory fun question - do ye have a weird quirk or ability? I can pick stuff up quite easily with my toes!

This is MADNESS. You are NOT Douglas Adams.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?! news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7619828.stm

NO.
NEIN.
NYET.
NON.

HELL NO, MOTHER-DOUCHEBAGS. D<

... In case ye were wondering, I am displeased. I know it's probably been hit on before, seen it around here, commented, wrote about it in my DeviantART journal where I am a lot more, but it deserved ALL THE RANTING I CAN MUSTER.

NOBODY REPLACES DOUGLAS ADAMS.
Especially not - HIM! I was never impressed with Artemis Fowl. I mean - fine, it's a decent young-adult fantasy series, but NOT ON PAR WITH ADAMS.
And - and - if they HAD TO -
Why not ask someone like Pratchett? Or Neil Gaiman?! Those are the only two authors in the whole damn world I can EVER see writing a decent Hitchhiker's book.

THIS IS MADNESS. D<
...

At least they're not touching Dirk Gently. <3

Hmrr. I have nothing else to say really, except that I AM twitching from Metalocalypse-withdrawal. (That and Gargoyles. ;_; ) Anyone actually know when the third season is premiering? I'm morbidly suspicious that it's January, which will suck royally.

I keep having weird thoughts about Pickles, Charles, and the perils of child-proof caps. :| Somebody must stop this thing before it makes my head a'splode with silly ficlet ideas.

* * *
1) Thoughts on this Hitchhiker's debacle, or Douglas Adams in general?
2) If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would it be, no matter how crazy?
3) Play an instrument?

3 MRIs and a sandwich...phone....

:| Whut. I tried to do a play on "two turntables and a microphone", but it didn't work.

URgh. I just got back from an extremely tiring day. School first. Then driving with my mom to a doctor's appointment 35 miles away in insane traffic. About stupid back pain and cyst - which doesn't exist, apparently. The specialist looked at the X-rays and said "WTF NO, it's FLUID in yer spine!" So... good no cyst, bad fluid? AGH.

So now I get to have THREE, count 'em THREE more MRIs. :| This does not amuse me. At least there'll be no contrast (read: IV with sticky-needle-in-hand AAGHH) involved. Seeing how I only have one kidney and the dye could mess it up... But still. Three. The hell. xP

OH and the specialist was this French older man who - uh, wow, he was like... I don't even know how to explain it. xD He kicked ass. And "shot from the hip", as his assistant said. Upon seeing the prescription the other back doctor gave me for an MRI WITH contrast, he seemed quite pissed and said "NO! This would be very bad for you! See, I TEAR IT UP, I TEAR IT UP!" and then he did this one big sweeping, flourishing RIIIIPPP.  It was sorta awesome. xD

Oh. :B I hath decided that, like my DeviantART journal, I shall end each entry with Interesting Questions, for the purpose of me getting to know anyone who reads this better, and for ye to have something fun to do here. :3 Also it shall allow me to stroke my chin in a knowing, Freud-like manner and say "hmm, that's interesting..." x3

Let's start with something basic! :3 Oh, and if ye answer these I'll tell ye mine too! Which shall be fun for me, and let ye get to know me better too.

1) What's yer favorite color?
2) Favorite animal? Mythical creatures okay and encouraged! :3
3) What's yer favorite song?

AND, if anyone feels like it, here's a snippet of a story I was working on last night, the second part to my Chameleon Moon project. :3 It's... not for those who don't like... weirdness. x3 And gay-ity.

Drag Queens and Lizard Men ahead! :D  )

Pirates are totally metal!

:D I hope everybody's getting ready for Talk Like A Pirate Day! September 19th! I shall have to make an eyepatch of some sort to commemorate the occasion, me hearties! <3

In other news, I HAS NEW HEADPHONES. And yes, this is QUITE a big deal, as when ye spend as much time listening to music as I do and love it as much - they're IMPORTANT. As I babbled to a certain Angry friend of mine a moment ago, music is like oxygen to me, and having good headphones is like having a kickass respirator full of joy. :D And having sucky ones is like... not getting air flow to the brain.

In other news, I was a very bad girl last night and stayed up until 3 AM studying writing another Metalocalypse fanfiction. Which I spammed my new communities with, and here that be for yeee! :D

Title - For The Cameras
Author:
Sylver
Rating: PG - no swearing, even! :D What a novel event!
Pairings: Desperately one-sided Toki/Skwisgaar
Warnings: ZERO EDITING WHATSOEVER! :D Purely for fun, written at 2:30 AM. Prepare for grammar weirding!
Summary: Very short drabble. The world knows Toki and Skwisgaar are the power metal couple of the new millennium. Too bad one of them doesn't know it himself. Charles is concerned.

ZOMFG! Turns to channel 4! Are yous seeing dis?! )

ALSO: Dethquote Meme:

When you see this, post another Metalocalypse quote in your lj. Let's see how long this can go on for.

"'Kay, here's what ya do. He sleeps. Sock. Bar a'soap. BANGBANGBANG! Brain damage. Cornfield. Gun. PSHOOOWW! Funeral."
- Pickles the Drummer

Here I be!

... TA-DAH.
Here I be on my shiny new journal-thing. :B Probably shall not use it too terribly much, but - nice to have. I hath expanded my interwebz horizons. If yer finding me from DeviantART, this is Sylver... as the ever-so-imaginative username here points out. :B

I wish to say something utterly enthralling, to tickle and inform. :| I do not know what this would be.

Except that I recently re-read Joyce Carole Oates' short story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been", and had forgotten how rabidly I love that thing.  I highly suggest picking it up, it's only around ten pages long, and involves a girl in pink lipgloss meeting Satan in an old jalopy with "Man The Flying Saucers" written on the side.

And I drew a Charles (Metalocalypse whore be I) last night, and he came out looking like a grumpy old lady on her period. D:

... That is all. <3
